Akelius acquires Back Bay apartment building for $33.5 million


Swedish real estate investor Akelius has acquired 12 Commonwealth Avenue, a 56-unit Back Bay apartment building, for $33.5 million in cash. The building is Akelius' 12th acquisition in Boston, and 32nd in the United States; the company owns approximately 46,000 apartments worldwide. Akelius' last Boston acquisition was the 17-story, 153-unit Carson Tower on Carson Beach in South Boston, acquired in December 2016 for $64.25 million. 12 Commonwealth Avenue's sellers are longtime owners the Gorin and Leeder families; the building features studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and is located on Commonwealth Avenue Mall steps from the Boston Public Garden.

Akelius acquires South Boston’s 17-story Carson Tower apartments for $64.25 million


Swedish real estate investor Akelius has acquired the 17-story, 153-unit Carson Tower waterfront apartment tower in South Boston for $64.25 million, or about $419,935 per unit. Akelius acquires, upgrades and manages apartments worldwide and owns over 50,000 apartments in Europe, Canada and the United States. The firm has identified Boston as a key market for investment; “the Greater Boston area is one of the core markets for Akelius US in the United States,” says Noam Kleinman, Regional Vice President at Akelius.
