WS Development has announced it is negotiating a lease with Amazon to lease approximately 430,000 square feet of office space at a planned office building overlooking the Seaport District’s future Harbor Square public park. Approximately 2,000 Amazon employees would work at Amazon’s new space. Amazon’s lease would fill the planned building, located on Seaport Square Parcel L4 at the corner of Autumn Lane and East Service Road next to Skanska’s new 121 Seaport office tower, entirely. The building would also include approximately 81,000 square feet of retail and neighborhood amenities on its’ first two floors.

Construction of the Parcel L4 building is expected to commence by the end of 2018, with completion expected in 2021. Amazon would also be given an option to lease additional space at a planned building located across Harbor Square on Seaport Square Parcel L5, at the corner of Congress Street and Boston Wharf Road. The option would expire at the end of 2020, and require Amazon to employ at least 2,000 additional people in Massachusetts.

Amazon’s Seaport office is independent of the company’s search for a second headquarters, for which Boston is one of 20 finalists. Amazon currently employs approximately 1,200 people at its’ office at 101 Main Street in Kendall Square, and will employ 900 more at a new 150,000-square-foot office at 253 Summer Street in Fort Point, steps from the company’s planned Seaport office, opening later this year.
