Boston East Update 04/19/16

Sheet pile wall foundation under construction at Boston East on East Boston Waterfront


Construction of Boston East's sheet pile wall is moving forward swiftly. The sheet pile wall will reinforce Boston East's foundation and underground parking structure. A 120-car underground garage will be built at Boston East.


Once the sheet pile wall is complete, the construction team will excavate the project's foundation and underground parking structure. Excavation equipment has been parked at the Boston East site including excavators and a dump truck. The following are photographs of the equipment:

A blue Mantis 15010 crane is being used to drive the wall's sheet piles into the ground. The following are photographs of the crane driving piles at Boston East:

Many sheet piles have already been driven along the Boston East building's future perimeter. The following are photographs of the sheet piles:

As foundation construction progresses at Boston East, timber and earth fill used to originally construct today's East Boston Waterfront is being uncovered. The East Boston Waterfront, like much of Boston, was constructed using land filling techniques to expand the original land area. The following is a photograph of unearthed fill:
