Interior renovations complete at the Innovation and Design Building

The Innovation and Design Building, a bastion of Boston’s innovative and creative economy, recently underwent interior renovations totaling over $13 million. All common spaces received new finishes including lighting, carpeting, wallpaper and more. New art displays and furniture were also installed throughout. The result is a bright, airy layout that invites visitors to explore the building’s various companies and showrooms. 3D design software firm Autodesk recently announced it will move into the Innovation and Design Building in fall 2015, a key asset to the building and to Boston’s ever-growing technology community.

The building’s preexisting open floor plan, with high ceilings and wide spaces filled with natural light, has been beautifully preserved as well as improved with attractive, upscale new finishes that are in tune with the rapidly developing Seaport District. Yet the Innovation and Design Building, originally a US Navy storehouse, has a unique historical character. The strength portrayed by the Innovation and Design Building's straightforward yet meticulous architecture provides a stark contrast to many of the Seaport’s sleek, newly constructed developments. With its large paned windows and imposing white stone façade, the Innovation and Design Building serves as a testament to the waterfront’s longstanding history as Boston’s focal point of industrial innovation and design. Accordingly, the Innovation and Design Building’s new finishes are intricately detailed with carefully selected patterns and colors, a thoughtful tribute to the building’s time-honored function as an incubator of thoughtfully innovative design and engineering.
