New England Conservatory completes $85 million Student Life and Performance Center


New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) has completed its’ new $85 million, 135,000-square-foot Student Life and Performance Center (SLPC), located on St. Botolph Street in the Fenway. The building will be fully occupied starting this Fall, and will feature educational and theatrical space along with housing for approximately 252 students, doubling NEC’s on-campus housing capacity. The SLPC’s opening marks NEC’s 150th anniversary; the building will be officially dedicated at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, September 14th at 11 AM. The contemporary 10-story building features terra cotta tile with broad expanses of glass, showcasing NEC’s programs and performances. The SLPC is designed to foster collaboration, spark creativity and nurture a student community, featuring multiple new common spaces including a raised stage to support student-led ensemble performances, a two-level library consolidating NEC’s print material and audio resources collection in a central, accessible location and a new black box theater.
