Newly Constructed Burlington Home Sets Stage for Haycon’s Entry into Multi-Family Modular Construction Applications

Boutique building, construction and design firm Haycon has expanded leadership in innovative construction methodologies with modular construction capabilities. Advances in modular building technology have vastly revolutionized an industry formerly seen as a second rate building method for inexpensive single family construction. Given the many benefits of modular construction, the Boston area has seen an enormous influx of modular projects in recent years, from single to multi-family homes to large apartment buildings and hotels. Over the past year, multi-family buildings have been constructed using modular technology in prominent locations such as Allston near Boston Landing and Cambridge near Harvard Square. A number of modular hotels have also been built surrounding the future Wynn Boston Harbor casino site in Everett.

The benefits of modular construction are valuable to developers where speed impacts profitability. Modules are fabricated and finished in the factory concurrent with site work at the project location, thus condensing the project schedule. Further, factory controlled environments reduce weather delays and material loss from both waste and theft.

Haycon utilized the build of 26 Peach Orchard Road, a new-construction 3,200-square-foot Colonial in Burlington, MA, as a case study to perfect sophisticated modular construction methodology and apply that expertise to upcoming future multi-family projects. This luxury home is comprised of multiple prefabricated factory built sections assembled on the property. Each modular section was delivered to the project site fully sealed and craned into place. The modules’ interiors were finished with wallboard/plaster, tile, cabinetry, countertops and finish carpentry installed.

The 5 bedroom 3.5 bathroom home is now completed with gleaming hardwood floors, designer-quality finishes and high-end appliances throughout. Large windows allow abundant natural lighting and enhance the open floor plan. The end result is a gorgeous quality custom home, more quickly and efficiently delivered and virtually indistinguishable from a stick built home. Having honed the intricate and careful logistical planning involved in modular methodology, Haycon is now in the pre-construction phase for a multi-family modular project breaking ground this Spring in a metro Boston neighborhood.
