The Rise of Coworking Space 02/06/20

Coworking space has been growing at a rate of 23% per year since 2010. And who can blame the companies and individuals who have flocked to these convenient spaces in droves?  Not only is coworking space less expensive than your typical office it comes ready to go, just bring your laptop and sign into the wifi. Most spaces also offer community engagement programs, mentoring, and other perks like free printing, coffee, and snacks.

At the end of 2017, there were approximately 52 million square feet of coworking space in the U.S. (according to a JLL survey).  However, a large portion of this space, around 40%, is being rented by startup and tech companies. While some of these companies may have a connection to the CRE field, individuals or smaller organizations looking for a more focused community may find themselves as the odd man out in a tech coworking space.

Along with cost savings and convenience, networking is another key factor in choosing a shared space.  Connections made amongst peers can lead to new business or provide valuable input on a project or question.  For this reason, it becomes paramount that individuals within the design and construction community select a shared workspace more carefully than a tech startup. Finding a space with an engineer or architect down the hall should trump free coffee any day.

CRE professionals searching for that specialized workspace will find only one in Boston catering to them: Workspace @ NewMarket.  This all-new space has been thoughtfully designed by construction industry leader, Haycon Construction, to cater to construction and design professionals. Special touches such as a dedicated plotter for printing full-sized drawings and larger workspaces to spread out plans or product samples are nods to the target audience.  The space offers individual, customizable offices or open desk seating along with a large conference room for meetings.  The layout of the space with a large open kitchen also promotes engagement amongst the growing community. Even the location, just ½ mile from 1010 Mass. Ave, everyone’s favorite spot for a quick permit visit, is ideal for this group.

Other features at The Workspace @ NewMarket include dedicated break-out rooms, showers, and ample car and bike parking.  The newly renovated South Bay Center is just a few minutes away along with MBTA access and the all-new Kroc Center featuring a full gym and pool.  The bright and modern workspace offers a great option for those looking to get out of their cramped home office and engage with their peers.
