With the Savin Hill T station across the street and new apartments opening all around, the local developers of this Dorchester property thought this would be the perfect spot to re-introduce the traditional corner store concept but in a fresh and modern way. Visual Dialogue started by giving the concept a name: “The Daily,” which says it all. The bright yellow conveys the sunrise starting each new day while the script type gives a handmade, nostalgic vibe. The design was carried through to the signage, interiors, and even coffee cups, and bags. The shop carries everything from fresh produce to frozen staples and offers meat and seafood departments along with a deli counter and homemade pastries.

The project has been issued a building permit by the City of Boston, and will replace the storefront and two houses with two new-construction buildings including a residential building along Sydney Street and a commercial/retail building along Savin Hill Avenue. Residences will include one 1-bedroom, six 2-bedrooms and two 3-bedrooms. Commercial and retail space could include a neighborhood market, a restaurant, a cafe or a spa, in addition to office space.

Developer James Baker proposes to construct nine residences at 110 Savin Hill Avenue in addition to his proposed 14,182-square-foot commercial building. Baker will now acquire an additional single-family home at 14 Sydney Street, expanding the project’s total area to 12,778 square feet (0.29 acres) and allowing for the addition of an additional residential building along Sydney Street. Baker has filed plans for his proposed mixed-use development with the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA), who is now reviewing the proposed project. Developer of three-story Savin Hill commercial development acquires key property for $1.1 million
James Baker, developer of a proposed three-story commercial development in Dorchester’s Savin Hill next to the MBTA Red Line station, has acquired the existing triple-decker home at 10 Sydney Street for $1.1 million, expanding the project’s land area to approximately 8,000 square feet. The development, which would replace the triple-decker and a vacant single-story retail building, is expected to start construction between Fall 2017 and Spring 2018.
