ALTA INDELMAN, ARCHITECT
Alta Indelman, Architect was established in 1995 as a multidisciplinary practice focused on providing excellent design while meeting the challenges of a diverse range of clients and programs. The firm's major goal is to satisfy the needs of the client and people who will live or work in the places that are created for them. The firm's work comprises award-winning projects for both private and public-sector clients, including multifamily developments, private residences, office and interior renovations, hospitality and restaurants, historic preservation and adaptive re-use, as well as infrastructural and public facilities. Ms. Indelman is a registered architect in New York State and the firm is certified as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) in New York City. Ms. Indelman brings to her firm a strong design and technical background, which are creatively applied to each project in which she is involved. Projects characterized by limited financial resources, unusual and difficult programs, or existing constraints are approached without preconceived ideas and are addressed as exciting opportunities for both client and architect. Currently, a new 10-story luxury condominium building in Greenwich Village, designed by Ms. Indelman, is under construction. Other examples of built work include the Red Hook Community Justice Center, a courthouse/community center in Red Hook, Brooklyn; a vehicular testing lab for the NYC Department of Sanitation; two 6-apartment combinations turned into two custom residences; a top-to-bottom renovation of a Carroll Gardens townhouse; a historic farm house addition in Westchester County; a doctor's office; a restaurant in Greenwich Village; and three landmark facade restorations in the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District. The firm's accolades include The Red Hook Community Justice Center, which received an honor award for innovative handicapped accessible design and is a silver medal recipient in the national Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence program. Prior to founding her own practice, Ms. Indelman was an Associate at Davis, Brody & Associates (now Davis Brody Bond, LLP), an architectural firm established in 1952. Projects of particular note during her tenure there include the Midtown Community Court and two major biomedical laboratory buildings for the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, one a renovation and one a new building. Ms. Indelman's experience in coordinating the architectural, structural and mechanical requirements for these efforts informs the exacting and diverse nature of her current work. She attended New York University and received her training at Cooper Union in the 70's under the influential John Hejduk. In addition to, and as an essential component of her creative output, Ms. Indelman actively practices life drawing in her spare time. She lives in a loft of her own design in SoHo with her husband and son.
