Broadway Residences Update 07/11/17

13 new residences with ground-floor retail coming to Sullivan Square

Broadway Residences, a new development featuring 13 apartment residences and ground-floor retail, has broken ground in Somerville steps to Sullivan Square Station. A five-story building featuring 11 apartments and two retail spaces has taken shape on the former site of a blighted single-story retail structure, with the steel base and two wood-framed floors complete. Weatherproofing of a historic home on site built in 1841 is underway, following the house’s gutting and placement onto a new foundation; the house will contain two apartments. Broadway Residences is anticipated to open in early 2018.

Broadway Residences will add an important residential presence to Sullivan Square, a major transit hub which is experiencing a construction surge. In addition to Broadway Residences, both 32 Cambridge Street, a $52 million development featuring 171 apartment residences and 2,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, and 480 Rutherford Avenue, a $45 million development featuring 177 apartment residences and 10,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, will soon take shape in the neighborhood. Together, these developments will provide the Boston market with additional new-construction housing inventory located within walking distance to public transit. “Broadway Residences will add thirteen beautiful new apartment units to an area that is in desperate need of new transit-oriented housing, while helping to revitalize an underutilized stretch of a major road steps away from a transit hub,” said Fred Starikov, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Broadway Residences’ developer City Realty.
