2019’s Top Mid-Stage Subcontractors Update 05/14/19

Round Two of our highly anticipated Subcontractors list is here. These are BLDUP’s top companies working in mid-stage construction. These organizations play a key role in moving some of Boston’s largest and high profile projects forward.

American Plumbing & Heating

American Plumbing & Heating is an Eastern Massachusetts-based plumbing company. The firm specializes in complex projects requiring advanced experience and understanding of plumbing systems. American Plumbing & Heating services have been solicited within a wide range of sectors from residential to educational and industrial. Most notably, the company has worked on projects such as 1330 Boylston in Fenway, the Koch Institute at MIT, and the One Canal Apartment Homes and Vertex’s office in the Seaport.

Bowline Construction

Bowline Construction is a leading provider of personnel and material access systems including hoists, mast climbers, scaffolds and swing stages. They offer innovative design and technical experience for a wide range of renovation and new construction projects in New England. Bowline has recently worked on The Hub on Causeway, projects for Emerson, Harvard, NU, and BC, and the Encore Boston Harbor.

Cannistraro

Over the last fifty years, this family-owned company has evolved from a local plumbing contractor into a mechanical construction firm with 700 employees. Today Cannistraro provides a comprehensive package of mechanical services by delivering plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC. Their projects include Pierce Boston and The Sepia condos in the South End’s Ink Block.

Crocker Architectural Sheet Metal

Crocker Architectural Sheet Metal is based in North Oxford, MA and specializes in metal, slate, tile roofing and siding. The firm has provided roofing solutions for new construction projects including the JFK Apartments in Cambridge and Avalon at Assembly Row in Somerville, MA. In addition, Crocker has completed historical renovations throughout New England, including Newport, RI mansions ‘The Breakers’ and ‘Chateau Sur Mer’.

EM Duggan

E.M. Duggan is a fifth generation, family-owned business with expertise in plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection. Their extensive list of projects includes Avalon North Station and 319 A Street luxury condos in Boston’s Fort Point. They have also worked on several of Boston’s best hotels including The Liberty and The Ritz Carlton along with the new Yotel in the Seaport.

Energy Insulation Conservation

Energy Insulation Conservation is a Worcester-based firm specializing in commercial insulation services. The firm has completed projects at Boston Logan Airport, Boston University’s Agganis Arena, and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. In addition to work on commercial projects, Energy Insulation Conservation also provides insulation services for mechanical systems at plants, educational institutions, offices, and hospitals.

Gleeson Powers

Over the last 25 years, Gleeson Powers has grown into a leading firestop subcontractor offering a range of services focusing on sealing and protecting new and existing buildings from the impact of fire & smoke, air, water, and sound. Their extensive list of experience includes all different building types from the massive Encore Hotel and Casino, to the mixed-use Hub on Causeway and the upcoming Class-A office project 81 Wyman Street in Waltham.

JK Glass Company

JK Glass is a Boston-based glass solutions firm. Initially founded as a small commercial window installation company, JK has grown to work on installations for some of Boston’s most iconic properties including Radian, 315 on A, The Converse Headquarters building, Troy Boston and One Greenway. JK glass has earned a reputation as a collaborative partner for large general contractors throughout the Northeast.  

JM Electrical

JM Electrical Co., Inc., established over 30 years ago is now an industry leader in installing building automation systems and HVAC controls. JM  has provided technical expertise on some of Boston’s largest projects including Pierce Boston, Millenium Tower, and Lovejoy Wharf.

Liberty Construction Services

Headquartered in Boston, Liberty Construction Services was established in 2007 to provide general requirements for labor and carpentry support services. Building on their early success, they added services and reorganized into four divisions: General Conditions, Drywall, Concrete, and Equipment & Supply.  Liberty Construction has worked on The Kensington in Downtown Boston and most recently the Encore Boston Harbor.

P.J. Kennedy & Sons

P.J. Kennedy & Sons is a Boston-based firm specializing in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems. The firm has installed thousands of systems in schools and universities, multi-family apartments, condominiums and more, including projects for the University of Massachusetts Boston and Cambridge Housing Authority. They are currently working on The Harvey, in Charlestown.

Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric has been providing power management services across the globe for over 100 years. They provide integrated efficiency solutions, combining energy, automation, and software. Currently, Schneider is working on the upcoming 44 story tower to replace the Garden Garage and Innovation Square in Boston’s Seaport.

Sweeney Drywall Finishes Corporation

Sweeney Drywall Finishes Corporation is an Eastern Massachusetts-based firm specializing in drywall, plaster, metal stud framing, and hardware installations. Sweeney has worked on projects at Gillette Stadium and Fenway Park, as well at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Boston Medical Center.
