55 Story Midtown Office Tower in Public Review
An application by Boston Properties for a 1,050-foot tall office tower at 343 Madison Avenue, in Midtown, is currently in the public review stage. The application requests special permits for the redevelopment of a piece of land, owned by the MTA. The existing building is set for demolition, and a new 55-story office tower would be constructed in its place. The MTA would maintain ownership of the land, and the tower would be developed pursuant to a 99-year ground lease. The application has already been reviewed by the Community Board, Borough President, and most recently by the City Planning Commission. Currently, the project is waiting on votes from the City Planning Commission. If all goes to plan, the application will next be sent to the City Council, and then finally to NYC's Mayor for the final say.
