893 Eagle Avenue Proposal Heads to City Planning Commission

An application proposing a supportive housing development, at 893 Eagle Avenue in the Bronx's Woodstock neighborhood, recently began the public review process. So far it has been evaluated by the Community Board and the Borough President. Following approval from the Borough President, the application is now about to be sent to the City Planning Commission (CPC) for further review. Once received, the CPC will have 60 days to hold a hearing and to vote on the proposal.

Developed by Housing Options and Geriatric Association Resources (H.O.G.A.R. Inc), the new building would contain 83 residences for low-income community residents and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Designed by Urban Architectural Initiatives, the 14-story structure would stand 148 feet tall and total 55,324 square feet. In addition to supportive housing, it would feature a cellar and a sub-cellar (due to the property's steep grade) containing a lobby, counseling offices, and multipurpose rooms.

In order to facilitate the project, H.O.G.A.R. Inc is requesting a number of necessary actions, including a zoning map amendment, a zoning text amendment, and a special permit.
