Alexandria Approves Sustainability Strategy for Potomac River Generating Station
The Alexandria City Council has approved Hilco's Coordinated Sustainability Strategy for the redevelopment of the Potomac River Generating Station. The firm plans to convert the site to electric district energy and microgrid systems which would allow for all-electric building systems. “Electrification of primary building systems ensures that there is a future pathway to carbon neutral operations while simultaneously delivering a high level of building performance and comfort,” HRP said. Plans for the 20-acre site call for over 2M square feet of mixed-use development across three phases. Demolition on the project could start as early as next year.
