Amazon shortlists Boston as one of 20 contenders to host second headquarters Update 01/18/18


Amazon has released a list of 20 cities it is considering to host its’ $5 billion, 8-million-square-foot second headquarters campus (HQ2), one of which is Boston. A total of 238 bids to host HQ2, which will create 50,000 new jobs, were submitted to Amazon in October 2017 from cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The following cities are now being considered to host the campus:


- Atlanta, GA

- Austin, TX

- Boston, MA

- Chicago, IL

- Columbus, OH

- Dallas, TX

- Denver, CO

- Indianapolis, IN

- Los Angeles, CA

- Miami, FL

- Montgomery County, MD

- Nashville, TN

- Newark, NJ

- New York City, NY

- Northern Virginia, VA

- Philadelphia, PA

- Pittsburgh, PA

- Raleigh, NC

- Toronto, ON

- Washington D.C.


Amazon is considering both the City of Boston’s proposal, which focuses on the proposed 161-acre Suffolk Downs development in East Boston, and the City of Somerville’s proposal, which focuses on a number of sites along the MBTA Orange Line in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett and Somerville. Amazon will evaluate the 20 selected finalist cities in the coming months, and expects to decide in 2018 which city will host HQ2.
