Ambitious Midtown Skyscraper One Step Closer to Reality
A proposal by David Karnovsky for an art deco-style tower that will sit next to Grand Central Terminal is quickly progressing through the public review stage. The RXR Realty development at 175 Park Avenue is a mixed-use office building that will stand 1,486 feet tall. It was designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and it will amass approximately 2.1 million square feet. The tower will also contain a hotel with 500 rooms. On Thursday, Manhattan's Borough President approved the project with a favorable vote. The next step is for the City Planning Commission to review the proposal. A public hearing related to the environmental impact statement is currently in progress, and a final EIS will soon be submitted.
