Sandy Spring Meadows - Missing Middle Project Update 06/23/22

Another Missing Middle Project Heading to Montgomery County

A missing middle project has moved forward in the approval process as it received green light from Montgomery County's affordable housing partners.

Missing middle housing describes multifamily residential development in single-family neighborhoods, often in ways that retain the neighborhoods feel and physical appearance. The 14-acre Sandy Spring Meadows Subdivision, in which the subject site is a part, was an affordable rental program in the early 1980s.

The Housing Opportunities Commission, and its subsidiaries RAD6 Development Corporation and Townscape Design LLC, have proposed adding 19 missing middle units to the Sandy Spring Village Center. The project will now go before the county's development review committee.

The majority of the 60 detached residences remain intact, and this plan intends to retain some of those residences at this time. The 19 dwelling units will be made of 12 duplex units and 7 townhouse units. There will also be over 900 sq. ft. of community space, as well as a large area dedicated to widen the street for increased parking.
