Balfour Beatty Selected to Deliver $168 Million in Student Housing Projects in Florida
Balfour Beatty has been selected to construct three major student housing projects in Southern and Central Florida in the United States, with a combined contract value of approximately $168 million (£129 million).
The projects include the Rollins College East End Neighbourhood in Winter Park, Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) 2026 Campus Student Housing project in Boca Raton and Nova Southeastern University’s dining renovation in Fort Lauderdale.
Rollins College East End Neighbourhood - Winter Park, Florida
The $54 million (£41.5 million) Rollins College project replaces the 80-bed Holt Hall, Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex, and Copeland Stadium. Aimed at increasing student housing capacity, the project supports the college's new three-year on-campus living requirement. Contract was awarded in August 2024 with site work is underway and completion expected in Fall 2026.
FAU 2026 Campus Student Housing Project - Boca Raton, Florida
Valued at approximately $90 million (£69 million), the new residence hall will provide 670 beds on FAU's Boca Raton Campus for non-first year students. The estimated 203,000-gross-square-foot student housing building offers a mix of 3- and 4-bedroom semi-suite units, each equipped with a kitchenette and designed for single occupancy bedrooms. The facility will also feature study spaces, kitchen facilities, laundry units and flex spaces distributed throughout each level, and the site configuration will address connectivity to the campus core by providing shaded outdoor spaces for gathering and recreation. Contract awarded this month with expected completion in Summer 2026.
Nova Southeastern University Dining Renovation – Fort Lauderdale, Florida
The $23.9 million (£18.4 million) project involves renovating the Health Professions Division’s (HPD) Terry Dining hall, including partial demolition of existing areas, renovation of the dining area and lobby, and addition of new dining and kitchen spaces. The project also includes utility relocation, service yard expansion, and the creation of a new Starbucks Coffee Shop in the Terry Building. Contract was awarded in September 2024 with expected completion in 2026.
John Harris, Balfour Beatty Executive Vice President in Florida, said: "We are thrilled to be chosen for these transformative projects that will enhance the student experience across three prestigious institutions in Florida.
"These contracts not only represent our commitment to providing essential campus improvements for our clients, but also underscores Balfour Beatty’s project diversification and growth strategy in the Southeast’s higher education market sector.”
