140 Clarendon Street Update 03/12/21

Beacon Communities Receive Approval for 140 Clarendon Redevelopment

Beacon Communities received approval for 118 market-rate apartments and 210 affordable apartments at 140 Clarendon Street. The converted 66-room hotel will maintain a mix of residential, commercial, educational, and cultural uses, with Boston City councilors Ed Flynn and Kenzie Bok both voiced their support for the project.

Beacon Communities and Mount Vernon Companies have entered an agreement to purchase 140 Clarendon Street in Back Bay from the YWCA Boston. Renovation work includes upgrades to the roof, replacing elevators, improving accessibility and installing a groundwater conservation system that will make the site more resilient for the future. There will be no modifications to the historic façade. All apartments within the building will be fitted with kitchens and bathrooms.
