Porter Square development changes from residential to hotel, frame construction underway
The developers of 1868 Massachusetts Avenue in Porter Square have revised the project to feature 50 hotel rooms instead of 27 residential apartments. The development’s ground-floor retail component will be retained. The construction team completed a significant portion of construction prior to the project’s change; on-site below-grade and foundation work is essentially complete, and the ground-floor podium steel framing is well underway. Per a neighborhood update, the construction team plans to resume steel work in the coming weeks, after which a wood-framed superstructure will be built above the steel podium to frame out the hotel portion of the project. Completion of the project is expected within the first half of 2018. The following are photographs of the 1868 Massachusetts Avenue site:
