Chestnut Place Update 01/08/17

Groundbreaking for Quincy’s tallest tower anticipated in Fall 2017

Quincy’s tallest tower, the proposed 15-story Chestnut Place apartment building in Quincy Center, is in the final stages of official review and could break ground this Fall. The tower, developed by Quincy developer Peter O’Connell, would be built on a section of a parking lot currently owned by the City of Quincy, who would sell the section to O’Connell pending a final appraisal of the lot. A separate project, the 171-room 1500 Hancock Street hotel, is also proposed to be constructed on the lot. Under the proposed agreement between O’Connell and the city, O’Connell would start construction of Chestnut Place within 90 days of the land sale’s closing. O’Connell would also contribute funds to construction of a new adjacent 650 to 700-space public parking garage, in which O’Connell would have access to 130 spaces. Chestnut Place is anticipated to open in the first quarter of 2019.
