New Harvard Square retail and commercial mall proposed

Developer Equity One has filed plans with the Cambridge Historical Commission (CHC) to redevelop three existing Harvard Square buildings located in a key location across from Out of Town News and the Harvard MBTA Red Line station into The Harvard Collection, a new mall containing 63,400 square feet of "contiguous retail and commercial floors;" the following is a link to the plans filed. Equity One acquired the three buildings in October 2015 for $85 million. Two new glass-enclosed floors would be constructed atop the buildings; existing facades would be preserved. The CHC will hold a public hearing to review Equity One's plans this Thursday (September 8th, 2016). Universal Hub reports that all existing leases in the three buildings expire before the end of 2017, clearing the way for redevelopment thereafter. Additional information about the proposed Harvard Collection can be found above.
