Boston Aquarium takes Stance Against Garage Redevelopment, Cites Harm to Harbor

The Boston Aquarium took the opportunity to respond to public comment on the The Pinnacle at Central Wharf project. Vickki Spruill, CEO of the Aquarium, wrote to the Boston Planning & Development Agency "In sum, by our mission and in our program, we hold ourselves responsible to protect Central Wharf and the downtown waterfront of which we are a pioneering anchor." Spruill argues the proposed project would be an "intrusive" and "burdensome development" and that the Aquarium is "afforded additional protection."

The Pinnacle at Central Wharf is set to include approximately 865,000 square feet of residential (approximately 200 units), office, and ground-floor retail space in a proposed 600-foot tower. The development also calls for improvements to the Harborwalk public realm.
