City of St. Petersburg Hospital Updates Plans for Affordable Housing Development

The City of St. Petersburg has updated the plans for the renovation of the former Edward White Hospital in St. Petersburg. The building will be converted into affordable housing and the city has altered the range of income mix to 30% to 80% of Area Media Income (AMI).  The initial plans called for the 70 units, five studio, 60 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom apartments to be made available to residents living at 60% or below of the Area Median Income (AMI). New funding has been made available, allowing for the change. The renovation of the three-story 121,000 square foot building will also include office space for The St. Petersburg Housing Authority, nonprofit organizations, and local businesses. Last fall, the Ed White development was one of seven affordable housing projects to receive funding from the City of St. Petersburg’s American Rescue Plan (ARPA). The project received $5,938,214 in funds allocated by the St. Petersburg City Council and $3 million in funds from Penny for Pinellas.
