Facade Work Nears Completion for Cantilevered Greenpoint Towers

With just a few sections to go, facade work is nearly complete for a pair of cantilevered towers at 227 West Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The uniquely shaped building is being developed by Brookfield Properties, and Park Tower Group as part of the multi-building Greenpoint Landing Development.

OMA is the firm behind the eye-catching design, and Beyer Blinder Belle is listed as the architect of record. This design certainly works as intended. The towers seem to mimic each other's setbacks to create what looks like two separated puzzle pieces. The shorter tower is 30-stories, and around 300 feet tall. The taller, cantilevered tower is 40-stories and close to 400 feet tall. Combined, they will contain 745 residential units including approximately 224 affordable units.

Residents will have access to a fitness center and a private pool. In addition to residential space and amenities, the ground floor will contain around 8,600 square feet of retail space. Construction at this point is very far along and work is expected to finish in the early half of next year. The project sits at the mouth of Newton Creek and looks across at the Hunters Point South development to the north. It will also provide residents with fantastic views of the Manhattan skyline across the East River to the west.
