First plans for development of 140-acre Allston Landing revealed

Harvard University, owner of the 140-acre former rail yard known as Allston Landing, proposes to construct a 900,000-square-foot mixed-use development along the yard’s frontage on Western Avenue, which would be the first phase of the yard’s development. Dubbed the Harvard Enterprise Research Campus, the development would span 14.1 acres, featuring 400,000 square feet of office/lab space, 250,000 square feet of hotel/conference center space with 200 rooms and 250,000 square feet of residential space containing 250 units. A total of 800 to 900 parking spaces would be provided, and two public spaces would be created.

The proposed campus would be the latest expansion of Harvard’s growing Allston campus, located steps from Harvard’s upcoming $1 billion, 535,000-square-foot Science and Engineering Complex, which just topped off. As part of the campus, a new road, Cattle Drive, would be constructed. Cattle Drive would ultimately connect Western Avenue, Cambridge Street and the future West Station MBTA Commuter Rail stop. Harvard has filed plans for the proposed Enterprise Research Campus with the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA), who is now reviewing the proposed project.
