Ground Finally Breaks on Willets Point Remediation
NYC officials involved in the redevelopment of Queens neighborhood, Willets Point, gathered on Wednesday to shovel the first scoops of gravel at the vacant 23-acre site. It marks the start of an environmental clean up process that will revitalize the land and prep it for development. Queens Development Group (a joint venture between The Related Companies and Sterling Equities) will start to build 1,100 affordable housing units, a 650 seat public school, and various community infrastructure on the site once remediation has finished.
