Groundbreaking Celebrated at Historic Apartment Conversion

Cabana Design District, a multifamily housing development with 40% affordable units, held its groundbreaking ceremony on October 30th, 2024. Co-Developers Sycamore Development and Hunt Capital Partners were present alongside Andres Construction, General Contractors for the site, and Urban Design Group, the architects of record. 

Originally built in 1960, and transitioning into temporary use as a city-owned penitentiary after closing in the 80s, developers are now breathing new life into the Cabana Motor Hotel as part of an ambitious undertaking. Working with team of local experts, the plans maintain the historic charm while transforming it into mixed-use, mixed-income housing with ground-floor retail, amenities, and parking.
