Historic Dudley Square building restored into 30 mixed-income residences

A historic building located in Roxbury's Dudley Square originally home to a buggy manufacturing company has been restored and renovated into 30 mixed-income apartment residences, bringing increased residential presence to the growing neighborhood. The building features 21 affordable apartments and nine market-rate apartments, as well as 7,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. The historic building, originally built in 1915 and most recently home to the Tropical Foods grocery store, has been outfitted with new, energy-efficient utilities, as well as the latest quality finishes.

“We’re thrilled to provide new affordable and energy efficient rental homes for a wide variety of families and individuals drawn to Dudley Square,” said Jeanne Pinado, Chief Executive Officer of project developer Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC), in a prepared statement. “The apartments feature huge windows with lots of natural light, high ceilings, hardwood floors, bike storage and community space. This investment will continue to spur economic activity while addressing the need for more quality affordable housing in Boston.” Financing partners for 9 Williams Street include MassDevelopment, The State's MassWorks and Brownsfields grant programs, Eastern Bank, Red Stone Equity Partners, TD Bank and MassHousing.
