Howard University Set Lease all Residential Units at The Oliver for Student Housing

Howard University has applied with DC's zoning board to expand the boundaries of the Campus Plan to include The Oliver, currently under construction along Georgia Ave. NW. The property was previously extracted from the campus and is being developed into a mixed-use building with 93 multifamily units and 41,000 square feet of office space. According to the filing, due to a sharp increase in the University’s chronic student housing shortage, the University has decided to master lease all of the residential units in the Project for student housing. The initial lease is for a five -year term, with an option for an additional five-year extension. The leased units are intended to serve upperclassmen, which satisfies the Campus Plan’s priority to increase housing for upperclassmen and to facilitate a reduction in the number of students residing within the adjacent community.
