Huizenga Park Reimagined Update 01/31/23

Huizenga Park In Fort Lauderdale Planned For $15M Upgrade

The Huizenga Park was originally built more than 25 years ago by the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority originally called The DDA Park. In 2003 they changed the name to honor  H. Wayne Huizenga’s impact on Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Huizenga introduced both baseball and ice hockey to the South Florida area as the creator and initial owner of the Florida Marlins and Florida Panthers as well as many other accomplishments. The park is located 32 East Las Olas Boulevard.

Now the DDA has new plans to redevelopment the more than three acre park into a world-class public space. The City of Fort Lauderdale has granted the DDA with $5 million to help with the reimagined Huizenga Park along with the $950,000 the State of Florida contributed.

The project plans unveil a series of outdoor rooms that will revitalize the park that can be enjoyed every day of the year from morning to night. It will also include a new waterfront, 2-story restaurant.

The reimagined Huizenga Park is expected to cost $15 million and plans to start construction in 2023 with completion slated for 2024.
