Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park Gets City Council Approval
The Chicago City Council has approved the nation's first utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer, to be built on 128 acres of a 400-acre site. The $9 billion project, anchored by PsiQuantum, will feature four buildings, starting with an 88,000-square-foot facility for offices, research, and cryogenic cooling. Future phases will include three large warehouses along the Calumet River to house the quantum computers. The southern part of the site will be reserved for future developments with companies and universities. Plans also include expanding Steelworkers Park, improving the north slip, and building affordable single-family homes on 42 lots around, but not within, the park.
