Inova Health System Purchases Land Near Fairfax Hospital
Inova has purchased a substantial plot of land near their Merrifield Campus. The roughly 35-acre site north of its Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and west of the Inova Center was purchased by the nonprofit was formally for Personalized Health directly across Gallows Road.
“Given the clear strategic location relative to other Inova resources, this is truly a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish a foundation for long-term growth in support of Inova’s mission,” Dr. Stephen Jones, the president and CEO of Inova, said in a statement. “Acquiring this property, much like our purchase of the Inova Center for Personalized Health campus site in 2015, provides Inova the long-term planning flexibility to meet the growing and evolving healthcare needs of our community for generations to come.”
Inova took over the former Exxon Mobil campus in Merrifield in 2015 to create the system’s Center for Personalized Health; positioned as an innovation and research hub for the region. Inova completed the purchase in 2020 for the 117-acre site for $182.5 million.
The Inova Schar Cancer Institute, part of the original vision for that campus, has anchored the property since it opened in 2019. That facility features the newly-renovated Inova Saville Cancer Screening and Prevention Center.
