11-01 33rd Avenue Update 09/23/21

Large Mixed-Use Development Proposed for Astoria

A large mixed-use development has been proposed for 11-01 33rd Street in Astoria, Queens. The project is currently in public review, but if approved the 7-story building would total over 250,000 square feet, and serve a variety of functions. Developer, Prosper Property Group plans to dedicate most of the building to residential space. It would likely contain 224 dwelling units (including 45 affordable units).

In addition, the building would contain 19,709 square feet of commercial space. This would be divided between retail space, a supermarket, and an artist studio. Furthermore, there would be 11,098 square feet specifically reserved for industrial use. The space would be split up and used for light manufacturing by a flower producer, and a wine distribution company.

11-03 33rd Avenue was designed by Gerald Caliendo Architects and would be constructed mostly on vacant land. The few underutilized buildings that remain on the mostly leveled block would likely be snatched up and rezoned to make way for the project. The City Council is expected to review the proposal soon, and if all goes to plan, the development could potentially receive approval by the end of the year.
