Mixed-Use Development in Downtown St. Petersburg Moves Forward

The redevelopment of the 1700 Central block in downtown St. Petersburg has taken a step forward.  The St. Petersburg Development Review Commission approved the vacation of a 20-feet wide east-west alley located on the block. Two public hearings will be held prior to final approval.  Trammell Crow, a Dallas-based developer, has submitted plans with the City of St. Petersburg for a proposed seven-story mixed-use building that would rise in downtown St. Petersburg in the 1700 block of Central Avenue.  Alexan 1700, in the Grand Central District, would offer 267 apartments with ground-floor retail.  Trammell Crow is under contract to purchase the entire block, which is 2.02 acres.  The site plan submitted for approval features 475 car parking spaces and 267 bike parking spaces.  The apartment units will be a mix of studio, one and 2-bedroom units and the community would feature a pool courtyard.  The retail space will consist of 13,467 square feet of space fronting Central Avenue and 4,000 square feet along 17th street.  There are currently commercial and small residential buildings on the block that would be demolished.
