Modular Boxes Arrive as The Graphic Pushes Forward

Things are stacking up at The Graphic in Charlestown, MA as 129 modular boxes arrived at the site this week and will soon be craned into place to construct this new contemporary apartment building.

Gathering in front of one of the first modular boxes to land at the project site include (pictured in link below, left to right): Dave Stockless, ICON Architecture, Inc.; Patrick Leblanc, RCM Group; Young Park, Berkeley Investments; Kendra Halliwell, ICON Architecture, Inc.; and Bart Tocci, Tocci Building Corporation.

Each modular box is 60-65 feet in length, weighs approximately 30,000 - 35,000 pounds, and requires approximately 20 minutes to be lifted into position. On average, 14 boxes can be placed daily, which means a new building of this size will be erected in approximately one month. The modular box pictured here contains elements of three units at The Graphic, including sections of a two-bedroom, a studio and a one-bedroom apartment. Now under construction, The Graphic is currently the largest modular project in Boston.

The project remains on schedule using Touchplan, a construction software that allows developers to plan, implement, and monitor projects in their entirety. The innovative software gives developers the ability to see the full spectrum of their project down to every last detail. Touchplan has let developers keep their projects on or ahead of time leading to lower costs and more efficient construction.
