New Developer Requests Time Extension for Downtown DC Office to Resi Conversion
Transwestern Development is set to purchase the aging office building at 1133 19th St. NW and has filed a request for a 2-year extension on prior approvals to convert the building to residential use. Original approvals will expire on December 19, 2024 and according to project documents since the order was issued increasingly adverse market conditions posed challenges to secure the necessary financing to move the project forward. Transwestern, having recently executed a contract to acquire the property, remains committed to delivering the project to contribute to the overall revitalization of this area of the Central Business District and deliver new housing to serve the District’s significant housing needs. Unfortunately, additional time is necessary for the Project design to continue to be developed and finalized, and financing to be obtained, prior to permitting and the commencement of construction.
