Newark Brewery Site Set for Redevelopment

A 1.3-acre lot, located at 436 Ferry Street in Newark's Ironbound neighborhood will soon be redeveloped into a 6-story residential building. Set to be called "The Ballantine", it will replace a 4-story industrial building that sits on the site of the former Ballantine Brewery.

Developed by , The Ballantine will contain residential units, available in studio, one, two, and three-bedroom configurations. Most of these will be sold at market rate, although 14-units will be reserved for affordable housing.

Tenant amenities will include a central courtyard on the ground floor, a fitness center, and co-working space. In addition to residential units, the building will have square feet of retail. Plans also call for an enclosed parking garage with enough room for vehicles.

The building itself was designed by Minno & Wasko Architects, while the courtyard and the external landscaping were envisioned by Melillo Bauer Carman. The project is being funded by Bridge Investment Group and is expected to cost $88 million. Construction will begin this summer and finish by early 2025.
