NYBC Center East Applied Life Sciences Hub Update 12/02/21

NYBC's Proposed Manhattan Life Sciences Hub Granted Approval

A private application submitted by the New York Blood Center to create a Life Sciences Hub on the Upper East Side has just been approved by the NYC Mayor's Office. Since our last update, the City Council recommended modifications back to the City Planning Commission (CPC). The CPC reviewed and approved these before sending the application back to the City Council. It was finally sent to the Mayor's Office, and no veto was issued. This means the project is good to go, and building permits can now be obtained. NYBC's Center East Life Sciences Hub will come as part of Mayor, Bill DeBlasio's ambitious citywide plan to invest $1 billion in life science programs by 2026. The 16-story hub will total almost 600,000 square feet and function as a state-of-the-art innovation center. It will also be a key part of the city’s pandemic response infrastructure going forwards.
