Gotham Point Update 09/24/21

Pair of Towers Well Under Construction at Hunters Point

Construction is quite far along for the two towers that will soon make up the Gotham Point development in Long Island City. Gotham Point will be located at the southern tip of Hunters Point and constitutes the second phase of the larger Hunters Point South development plan. Both towers were designed by Handel Architects and are being developed by Gotham Organization

The Gotham Point towers are being constructed on two adjacent parcels, and are presently referred to as Parcel G, and Parcel F. Parcel G is located at 57-28 2nd Street and is the shorter of the two. It stands fully topped out, and mostly complete at 34-stories tall. General Contractor, Gilbane Residential Construction, is nearly finished with the building's facade, and priority has been passed along to the interior. Parcel G is planned to hold 443 residential units, of which most will be dedicated to affordable housing.

Parcel F on the other hand is not as far along at this point in time. Located across the street at 1-15 57th Avenue, its construction started later than Parcel G. As a result, the project is currently in a much earlier stage of the build process. Standing at 58-stories however, Parcel F will be significantly taller than G, and boast a different brick facade.

Right now the massive construction team at Gilbane is working on a number of different tasks at Parcel F. Most notably, the superstructure is still rising, and new floors are being added. At a glance, it appears that the tower is close to topping out, but a rough count indicates that a handful stories have yet to go up.

Down on the lower levels, workers have already made significant progress on the facade installation. For a project of this magnitude (roughly a medium sized city block including the podium), multi-tasking here will save a significant amount of time in the long run, and keep the project on schedule.

Parcel F is planned to hold 689 residential units. Gotham Point as a whole will have a total of 1,132 units, including 847 for affordable housing. Accounting for both towers, the combined square footage of the project will total over 1 million square feet.

Gotham Point is located right at the mouth of Newton Creek, where it feeds into the East River. This will provide residents of both Parcels G and F with fantastic views of the Manhattan skyline. Construction of Parcel G is expected to complete by the end of this year. Parcel F will likely be finished sometime closer to 2023.
