Unfortunately, the new development will replace an architecturally rich, 4-story church (formerly home to the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary); which was originally constructed back in 1917. Regarding the imminent destruction of this century-old building, public opinion in the surrounding community has been resoundingly negative, with some saying that the Upper East Side is slowly losing its character and others saying that the structure should be renovated and repurposed.
