213 East 83rd Street Update 09/27/24

Permits Filed for 7-Story Condo Project on the Upper East Side

Building permits have just been filed for a 7-story, mixed-use development, at 213 East 83rd Street on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Developed by

, the building will contain residential condo units, 4,038 square feet of community facility space, a cellar level, and a small, enclosed parking garage, with enough room for vehicles. Plans also call for a rear yard.

Designed by

, the structure will stand feet tall and total square feet. Unfortunately, the new development will replace an architecturally rich, 4-story church (formerly home to the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary); which was originally constructed back in 1917. Regarding the imminent destruction of this century-old building, public opinion in the surrounding community has been resoundingly negative, with some saying that the Upper East Side is slowly losing its character and others saying that the structure should be renovated and repurposed.
