Plan Commission Approves Free To Be Village 

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the Free to Be Village development at 4427 N. Clark Street in Uptown, a mixed-use project focused on affordable housing, community spaces, and resources for performing arts and media. Led by the Black Ensemble Theater, the project will be built in phases. Phase 1 includes a one-story podium with a 7,156-square-foot media and technology center, a 13,734-square-foot performance education center with a café and lobby, a new pedestrian plaza, over 14,000 square feet of retail space, and 89 parking spaces. Phase 2 will feature a four-story residential building with 53 affordable units, as well as a community room, collaboration spaces, and a fitness center.
