Plans Commission Approves Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park
The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the first phase of a $9 billion development to build a 458,000-square-foot facility for the nation’s first utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer on 128 acres of a 400-acre site, with PsiQuantum as the anchor tenant. The project includes four buildings, starting with an 88,000-square-foot facility for offices, research, and a cryogenic cooling system for the computers. Later phases will add three large warehouses along the Calumet River to house the quantum computers, pending further approvals and permits. The southern portion of the site will support future developments, including the construction of affordable single-family homes on 42 lots in the surrounding area.
