Progress Continues for Adaptive Reuse of The Foundry in Cambridge

Construction is still progressing at the Foundry building in East Cambridge. The historic building has undergone several renovations over the past century, but this, by far, is the most extensive. 

The interior of the building was gutted over the past several months; new slabs are poured and new interior walls are currently going up. MEP/FP equipment is also being installed, along with a new roof that will improve the building's energy efficiency. The transformer vault CMU and exterior sheathing at the addition have already been completed. Repairs to the building's original timber structure are nearly complete and new aluminum-clad wood windows are being placed within the historic masonry facade. 

When complete, the Foundry will be a new cultural center for the City of Cambridge that will house creative workshops, a multi-purpose theater, interpretive exhibits, a cafe, and leasable tenant space. Construction is expected to be complete in Summer 2022.
