Providence Hospital Redevelopment Update 05/05/23

Providence Reimagined selected to develop former Providence Hospital site into mixed-income neighborhood

Menkiti Group and EYA, collectively known as the Providence Reimagined team, announced today that they have been selected by Providence Hospital (campus) as the developers for the reimagined campus, and are kicking off a community outreach campaign to gather feedback from the neighbors on their wishes for the site.

“Community outreach is extraordinarily important to both companies that comprise Providence Reimagined. We believe that the neighborhoods we have developed through the years have benefited from the great insight we gain when we engage and listen to one another, said Evan Goldman, Executive Vice President at EYA. “We look forward to hosting numerous meetings to ensure that all voices are part of the conversation.”

The redevelopment of the Providence campus offers an opportunity for a holistic and inclusive redevelopment that will include much-needed community benefits and open space for the adjacent residential neighborhood while helping the city achieve its housing goals.

The concept for redevelopment is still in its infancy and will be developed with further input from immediate neighbors and District leaders beginning this month and continuing through the summer. More than a dozen meetings are planned with members of the community starting in early May.

Early proposed plans include senior and mixed-income housing, market-rate housing, increased open spaces, and a central gathering space for the whole community. Carroll Manor Nursing Home and the two operating medical office buildings that provide a wide range of essential services including senior care and related functions will remain.

Bo Menkiti, founder and CEO of the Menkiti Group said that “Over the past 19 years, The Menkiti Group has had a mission to transform lives, careers and communities through real estate. We are proud and honored to have the opportunity to deliver another transformative development project to the Washington, D.C. community. We strive to create community-led participative development that demonstrates the power of collaboration and will work to ensure that the vision crafted for this project becomes a reality.”

City residents who want to participate in these community meetings can visit ProvidenceReimagined.com, where they will be able to view the schedule for and sign up for upcoming meetings.
