Owls Head CSO Facility Update 11/07/24

Renderings Revealed for Stormwater Overflow Facility in Gowanus

Official renderings are now public for an upcoming, Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) facility, set for 2 2nd Avenue beside the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn's Gowanus neighborhood.

Developed by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and known as the "Owls Head CSO Facility", it will consist of a 24,750 square foot headhouse to support a new, 4 million gallon underground stormwater tank.

Plans also call for two acres of public waterfront space, and the relocation and redesign of a salt shed for the New York City Department of Sanitation.

The building itself has been designed by Selldorf Architects and landscape design is being handled by SCAPE Landscape Architecture. Posillico Inc is serving as the general contractor of the project.

Estimated to be complete by May of 2027, Owls Head is one of two new CSO facilities set for Gowanus, with the other one being the "Head End CSO Facility".
