Rindge Commons Tops Off

Project Partners Dellbrook|JKS and Just-A-Start gathered to celebrate the topping off of Cambridge’s new Economic Mobility Hub at Rindge Commons, designed by ICON Architecture, on May 18th, 2023.

The 72,881 square-foot, 6-story, mixed-use structure includes 24 affordable apartments on its top-most floors and 22,000 SF of space dedicated to Just A Start headquarters and programs like Bio & IT Workforce Training, Youthbuild Job Training, Housing Resources, and Financial Coaching. An exciting asset to the neighborhood, Rindge Commons also features 10,000 SF of preschool classrooms and 6,000 SF of commercial space.

After placing the final truss on this steel and wood framed building, the construction team will soon shift its focus to interior work, including the installation of utilities, interior finishes, and the creation of individual residential units and business spaces. “The topping off signals a great leap forward in the project,” said Project Executive, Scott MacLeod “and we’re grateful to our trade partners for helping us reach this achievement in a safe and timely manner.”

Rindge Commons, on course to achieve Passive House Certification, sets the stage for sustainable living and energy efficiency in the area. The project's careful design and construction techniques prioritize environmental responsibility, ensuring reduced energy consumption and long-term efficiency.

As construction progresses, Rindge Commons is scheduled to meet its anticipated completion date in late 2024. The commemoration of the project’s success thus far is a testament to the collective vision, collaboration, and determination of the developers, donors, builders, and community members, who eagerly await its arrival.
