Siemens breaks ground on $300 million, 300,000-square-foot expansion in Walpole

Siemens has broken ground on a $300 million, 300,000-square-foot expansion of its' existing manufacturing, warehouse, office and lab complex in Walpole, MA, located just south of Boston. Structural construction of the expansion wing is anticipated to commence this month; renovations to the existing 500,000-square-foot facility are underway. The expansion of Siemens' complex, which serves the company's Siemens Healthineers healthcare division, will create up to 700 new high-tech healthcare jobs within the next 5-to-10 years, increasing jobs at the complex to up to 1,600 by 2026.

The modernized facility will further increase Siemens' capacity to develop groundbreaking healthcare technology. “Our investment in Walpole expands our global footprint and reflects our long history of innovations that help healthcare providers meet their current and future business challenges,” said Siemens President of Laboratory Diagnostics Franz Walt in a prepared statement. “With this investment, we will expand our capabilities to deliver solutions such as our new Atellica™ portfolio of products to give lab professionals control and simplicity so they can spend less time on operations and more time driving better outcomes." Siemens' Walpole complex was originally built in 1979 and most recently renovated in 2007. Construction of the renovation and expansion of the complex is expected to take four years.
