South Coast Improvement Company completes renovations to Maplewood at Weston senior living community

Design, construction and construction management expert South Coast Improvement Company has completed a $2.5 million renovation to Maplewood at Weston, a luxury senior living community located in Weston, MA along the Charles River. The centerpiece of South Coast’s renovations was designing and building a new two-story foyer based off of an antique 19th century post-and-beam barn on site around which the rest of the community is built. Exterior improvements to Maplewood at Weston included refacing the community’s existing brick facade with clapboard and cedar shakes, as well as new masonry. Existing hip roofs were converted to gable-style roofs, featuring custom-made decorative trusses. At Maplewood at Weston’s entrance, a new monument sign with custom masonry work was constructed to make a strong and lasting first impression.

Inside Maplewood at Weston, South Coast Improvement Company performed a detailed renovation, preserving and enhancing the interior’s authentic, rustic post-and-beam construction. Black iron was installed along stairs and the second floor mezzanine, and custom millwork was installed throughout cabinets, exotic wood accent walls and rift cut ceilings in Maplewood at Weston’s pub, library, formal living room, country kitchen, media cafe and discovery room. Additional installations included five new gas fireplaces with custom masonry, a new waterfall in the community’s main lobby and a custom 180-bottle wine cabinet. Common areas received new hardwood floors sourced from Denmark, European copper tiles and updated finishes, lighting and electrical systems throughout.

Over the course of Maplewood at Weston’s renovation, owner Maplewood Senior Living proposed over 90 changes to the project’s design, resulting in 16 re-drawings of the entire project to accommodate the change of directives and doubling the project’s duration from four months as originally planned to eight months. South Coast Improvement Company expertly accommodated the owner’s requested changes, developing a comprehensive construction management plan that resulted in limited interruption to the community’s day-to-day operations and successful management of residents’ and employees’ finish date expectations.
