Steelwork Begins for Major Expansion in the Flatiron District

Steel erecting company, NYC Constructors LLC, has shared new photos of the first beams going up at One Madison Avenue in Manhattan's Flatiron District. This officially marks the start of a major vertical expansion that will add 19-stories to the existing 8-story podium.

According to NYC Constructors, Banker Steel Company will fabricate 4,500 tons of high-strength steel for the project. Developed by , the resulting 27-story tower will share its base with the iconic MetLife Clock Tower and create an additional 530,000 square feet of office space.

Designed by , with general contractor, , overseeing the build, the completed "One Madison" will stand 404 feet tall and grow from 860,000 to 1.4 million square feet.

In addition to office space, the expansion will add approximately 1.2 acres of landscaped, outdoor terrace spaces. Down below, the building will receive  square feet of retail and restaurant space, 12,700 square feet of private event areas, a tenant club, an artisanal market, and a fitness club, spanning 3-stories.

With vertical progress finally underway, construction is estimated to finish by the end of 2023. JLL is handling the marketing for One Madison and has already landed a deal with IBM for the lease of 5-full floors within the new tower.
